This tree is one of many exciting finds on our recent vacation to Orlando, Florida, which included a week’s stay at the Thousand Trails Orlando Preserve campground. On our arrival at the RV resort we found our cabin, then drove down to the lake, where we found this magnificent tree draped in Spanish-moss with the carving by Bill L Ampen. Other than the signature you see here, I know nothing more about this tree or the man responsible for this work of art. My teenage daughter and her friend found the climb more enjoyable.
Photo of the Week series: Every Sunday in 2012 I will either share a photo from my archives or something new I just can’t wait to get feedback on for future art shows/exhibits.
Blogger participation: My hope is to receive enough input on each week’s photo to later post a Bloggers’ Choice of the Month and wrap up 2012 with a Bloggers’ Choice of the Year.
Wow! I sure enjoy your way with words and excellent photography.
I sure enjoy your compliments and comments, Rob. Thanks so much!
I meant to mention that I recall as a youth carving the names and initials of girlfriends in the trunk of trees at McCormicks Creek State Park back in the 50s as if it were yesterday..
I remember doing that as well, but nothing as creative as this artwork. Happy the post brought back great memories for you.
I’m glad you included a photo from a distance. The tree is magnificent. It gives the artwork a context, which I so much appreciate.
Thanks, Dezra. It is a wonderful tree. So easy to climb. Love how the one extension of the trunk grows across the ground. And of course the Spanish-moss adds to its beauty.
What an extraordinary find. Oh how I would love to have something like that carved into my front yard tree.
Hello again, Karen. This is just one of many thrills I experienced on our recent vacation. More to come!!!
so beautiful so beautiful… Thanks and Love, nia
I think the artist was wise to choose this tree to showcase his talent! Glad you like it as well, Nia.
