New abstracts in ‘River Life’ show at Illinois gallery; Facebook Live event Oct. 17

“City in Pane,” as well as two new abstracts, “Flood of Emotions” and “Where Two Rivers Flow as One,” will be on display in the Gaslight Art Colony gallery in Marshall, Illinois Oct. 17 through Nov. 14.

A virtual opening for River City Art Association’s “River Life” membership show is set for 5 p.m. CDT Oct. 17 during the GAC gallery’s Facebook Live event.  My pieces and more than 40 other works in that show can be purchased on the website at gaslightartcolony.com

“City in Pane,” a giclee print on canvas, recently received two awards in photography. The building in this photograph reflects the Terre Haute, Indiana, landscape to the west where the Wabash River flows just beyond.

“Flood of Emotions” makes its debut in the ‘River Life’ membership show. The photography-based abstraction I created using my landscape photograph of a sunrise over Kentucky Lake.

“Where Two Rivers Flow As One,” another abstract previously titled “X Marks The Spot,” I created last year using my photograph of rooster tail feathers.

‘City in Pane’ and other works receive honors in July-August

First Place and Second Place: City in Pane, giclee print on canvas

I purposely, but I must say anxiously, waited until selections in a couple of prestigious juried competitions were decided (not invited to either) before I posted my honors back in July and August.

Sycamore Frost, First Place in TREES Inc. 2019 contest; First Place in Covered Bridge Art Association Associate Members Show in 2019 and Third Place in 2020 Annual Midwest Photography Show.

It was a great honor to receive a Second Place, Third Place and Honorable Mention in the Annual Midwest Photography Show late-July thru mid-August at the Link Art Gallery in Paris, Illinois.

I also received a First Place in the photography/digital category at River City Art Association’s 12th Annual Juried Exhibition in August in Terre Haute, Indiana.

I am not a professional photographer so competing in both juried categories was quite a challenge for me.

Until this year!

My giclee print on 14 x 20 canvas titled “City in Pane” was awarded Second Place at the Paris show, and a 11 x 14 version,  First Place in the Terre Haute exhibition!!

Telephone Network Interface

The Third Place in the Paris show went to my photograph, “Sycamore Frost,” which received two First Place honors in 2019.

The Honorable Mention at Paris was awarded to “Telephone Network Interface” on aluminum. I have since re-titled it  “Stranglehold,” and it is now displayed in my solo show at Corporate Square in Terre Haute through mid-December.
