‘Vegas Elvis 1977’ curated into ‘Anything Goes’ exhibition at Arts Illiana Gallery

I am happy to announce that my photography-based digital art abstraction titled “Vegas Elvis 1977” was selected by guest curator Michael Roberts for the “Anything Goes” exhibition in the Arts Illiana Gallery in Terre Haute, Indiana.

The high gloss aluminum panel is float-mounted off of a black acrylic background for presentation.

The “Anything Goes” exhibition call was open to artists from Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, and Michigan. Arts Illiana Gallery announced that 145 works of art were submitted by 55 artists. Sixty-nine of those submitted works of art from 35 artists were selected for the show, which opened May 3.

Roberts is a southside Chicago-based artist, musician and lawyer who began drawing at an early age and started live figure drawing in grammar school. Art and drawing was his focus throughout his childhood and he eventually majored in Art in college. Changing gears, he graduated from law school and after years of absence from the art world, he has returned to his roots in the form of portrait and abstract paintings. Inspired by urban street art and the abstracts of contemporary artists like Richter and the pop art of Warhol, Roberts creates multi-layered works which he describes as “Organic Street Art.”

Roberts’ artwork is on view in Arts Illiana’s North Gallery during the run of the “Anything Goes” exhibition through July 19.

I am excited to announce that my photography-based digital art abstraction, retitled “Party Girl,” was selected by jury process for the 2018 Juried Art Exhibition at Arts Illiana Gallery in Terre Haute.

(In a previous blog post I titled this piece “Midnight Revelry” but decided “Party Girl” was a more provocative impression conveyed by the curvature resembling  a woman’s torso.)

Guest jurors Philip and Brenda Milliren of Terre Haute selected 58 pieces by 36 artists from Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Kentucky for this regional exhibition.

A closing reception is set for 6 to 9 p.m. July 20 in the gallery at 23 N. Sixth St. in downtown Terre Haute.  Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
