‘Tennessee Whiskey’ and ‘Blossoming Madly’ on display in Covered Bridge country

Tennessee Whiskey and Blossoming Madly

Very honored to be in the company of several artists with more talent in their little pinky who are featured in the July Associate Members Show at the Covered Bridge Art Association Gallery in Rockville, Indiana.

Among the 32 works in this show, I have two entries in the photography category and both received awards.

“Tennessee Whiskey,” a double exposure image on aluminum, was awarded Second Place. The judge wrote, “A good eye to see this makes a great photo. Fun title. Well framed.”

An Honorable Mention went to my abstract image titled “Blossoming Madly,” which the judge noted, “Makes one want to explore more closely. Imaginative.”

A closing reception is scheduled 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 29, in CBAA’s Gallery at 124 W. Ohio St. on the Parke County Courthouse square.

‘Approaching the Drop Zone’ among works in Crow Show 2018

Approaching the Drop Zone

I am honored to have a digital art entry in Crow Show 2018, which opens at 6 p.m. today, Feb. 2, in Arts Illiana Gallery at 23 N. Sixth St. in Terre Haute.

“Approaching the Drop Zone,” a photography-based abstraction on metal, presented on a black acrylic float mount, is among the exhibition of 2-D and 3-D crow-themed art selected by guest curator Jeff Scher.

This piece originated from my photographic image of a magnolia bloom. In its altered state, stealth bombers swoop in over their target under the cloak of darkness on a winter’s night in the city of Terre Haute.

The opening coincides with Terre Haute’s February First Friday theme, Love Downtown.

“The crows seem to love downtown, and visitors to Crow Show 2018 will love viewing the renderings from artists across North America,” says Arts Illiana in a press release for the Terre Haute Tribune-Star.

93 pieces were submitted by 53 artists from 8 states. Artist Jeff Scher chose 62 works of art by 41 artists from 7 states.

“Scher is a painter and experimental filmmaker. His work is in the permanent collection at museums, among them the Museum of Modern Art, and has been screened at film festivals around the world, including opening night at the New York Film Festival,” states the Arts Illiana press release. “He has also created work for The New York Times, The New Yorker Magazine, IFC, HBO, PBS and the Sundance Channel. He also has made music videos for Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and others.

“He most recently animated the story of a Holocaust survivor for an HBO original documentary, which had its premier at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in Manhattan along with an exhibit of the original artwork. He teaches at the School of Visual Arts and at N.Y.U. Tisch School of the Arts, and is a guest artist this semester at Parsons School of Design.”
