9/52 Roman God

Atlantic Ave 3100: You can’t miss this larger than life Roman god on the boardwalk at 31st Street in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The bronze King Neptune statue by sculptor Paul DiPasquale stands in Neptune Park near the Hilton Hotel. The sculpture is 34-feet tall to the highest point on the trident, weighs 12.5 tons and includes an octopus, two dolphin, a sea turtle, a lobster and 12 fish. I decided to include the slideshow to give a more complete tour of our 2008 vacation experience. I was torn as to which photo to feature so bring on the critiques!

Wikipedia: Neptune was the god of water and the sea in Roman mythology and religion. He is the counterpart of the Greek god Poseidon. In the Greek-influenced tradition, Neptune was the brother of Jupiter and Pluto, each of them presiding over one of the three realms of the universe, Heaven, Earth and the Netherworld.

Photo of the Week series: Every Sunday in 2012 I will either share a photo from my archives or something new I just can’t wait to get feedback on for future art shows/exhibits.

Blogger participation: My hope is to receive enough input on each week’s photo to later post a Bloggers’ Choice of the Month and wrap up 2012 with a Bloggers’ Choice of the Year.
